This Boeing 707-430 was the last surviving Lufthansa Boeing 707. She was last registered as D-ABOB, although during its fifteen active years with Lufthansa, she saw service as D-ABOD with the name “Frankfurt”. After taken out of service in 1975, D-ABOD was used for apprentices at Lufthansa Technik in the Hamburg maintenance hangar, who later also painted it in the red and white colors of Hamburg Airport. When Lufthansa Technik no longer had any use for D-ABOD in 1999, it donated it to Hamburg Airport. As an exhibit at the airport, D-ABOD not only received the registration of her sister D-ABOB, but also her name “Hamburg” as well as a new paint scheme that roughly corresponded to the Lufthansa outfit of 1968. _x000D__x000D_The immense cost pressure triggered by the coronavirus situation forced Hamburg Airport to scrap this unique historical aircraft in the summer of 2021, despite passionate attempts by many aviation enthusiasts to save it. Herpa is now resurrecting the aircraft in the 1/200 scale, which will certainly remain a poignant souvenir for many fans.
