The North American F-86F Sabre was a transonic jet-powered fighter aircraft that served with the United States Air Force (USAF) and other air forces around the world. It was first introduced in 1949 and remained in service until the mid-1960s. The F-86F was a development of the earlier F-86 Sabre, which was the first American aircraft to hold the advantage over its Soviet-built opponent during the Korean War. The F-86F was powered by a single General Electric J47 turbojet engine and had a maximum speed of over 700 mph. It was armed with six .50 caliber machine guns and could also carry a variety of air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles and bombs. The aircraft was designed for air-to-air combat and had a distinctive swept-wing design, which allowed it to maintain stability at high speeds. The F-86F was widely used during the Korean War and proved to be a highly effective fighter, with a number of air-to-air victories to its credit. Despite its retirement from active service, the F-86F remains an important part of aviation history and is widely regarded as one of the best fighter aircraft of its era.
