After the reunification of the two German states in 1990, the aircraft of the air forces of the National People's Army were integrated into the Federal German Air Force. This included the IL-62s of the 4th Squadron of the 44th Transport Wing, which were operated by the "Government Squadron" in the civilian livery of Interflug. Three Ilyushin IL-62s were given new (West) German Air Force designations and were used as so-called "civil servant shuttles" by the Luftwaffe to transport officials from the federal ministries between the old capital of West Germany, Bonn, and the new capital of the reunified Germany, Berlin. This Il-62MK, formerly registered as DDR-SEP, was given the military registration 11+22. The first-class seating was converted to a narrower seating arrangement for use on the shuttle route between Berlin and Bonn. Whereas the remaining VIP configuration with office space and a sleeping cabin remained unchanged, most probably also due to budgetary reasons.
