Delta's first 777-232LR bearing registration N701DN and Ship 7101 delivered on February 29, 2008, at Boeing Field in Seattle, Washington. On March 6, at a ceremony in the Delta Technical Operations Center in Atlanta, Ship 7101 was christened "The Delta Spirit" in recognition of Delta employees worldwide.
The Delta Spirit entered scheduled service on March 8, 2008, with a flight from Atlanta, to Los Angeles, California. The aircraft’s first international flight was Atlanta to Tokyo, Japan, on March 9, 2008.
With a maximum operating range of 9,395 nautical miles (17,370 km), the 777-200LR has the longest range of any commercial airliner and can fly non-stop between nearly any two cities in the world. Of course, longer range means longer flights and Delta has raised the standards for travel comfort. The Delta One® class includes fully lie flat beds. The main cabin offers next-generation, more comfortable seats, and every seat offers Delta’s on-demand entertainment system on larger screens.
On November 9-10, 2005, a Boeing 777-200LR Worldliner set a new world record for distance traveled non-stop by a commercial jetliner. The 777-200LR set a record distance of 11,664 nautical miles (21,601 km) on a route traveling eastbound from Hong Kong to London (Heathrow). The flight lasted 22 hours and 42 minutes.
